I have some new info regarding weapons in MGS4, to get new weapons you unlock them by collecting weapons belong to enemies this gets you Drebin Points unlocking new weapons, these are also use to get modifications such as laser sighting, scopes, flashlights, grenade launchers and surpressors. You can also get ammo from him too.

So you collect points by bringing the weapons to Dreblin? That sure is an interesting way to unlock new weapons, but sounds like fun.

Yeah when you pick up enemy weapons you get Drebin point used for new weapons and customization and to get ammo too.

Did it tell you whether or not you got the points for picking up the guns, or do you have to actually take them to Dreblin?

I think you get them by picking the weapons up because you can use a menu at any point during the game to upgrade weapons so you don't have to go back to Drebin everytime.

Yeah I never thought about that, nothing was mentioned about it so you can probably carry as many weapons as you want.
