Keep the story going.

The woman had different coloured eyes. One was blue, like the other dead women downstairs, & one was hazel. Over to the side, she could see a blue contact lens.
"I'm detective Bartholemu; Paige Bartholemu", she replied. "You're a detective too, right?. I've seen you in the papers about that double homicide you prevented."
Sarah confirmed her hunch, and asked what she was doing here.
"I was supposed to go undercover to find out who was setting this up. They do parties here all the time and we heard heaps of illegal stuff goes on here. Girls end up dead sometimes; they all look like how I'm dressed up."
As Paige was explaining, Sarah could hear footsteps coming up the stairs. She looked out of the room to see who it was.

It was Mark, her partner. "Nobody downstaits. Anybody up here?" he asked. Sarah told him about Paige and what she had said.
"So what happened to your arm?" Mark asked when she finished.
Paige got a fearful look in her eyes. She looked away and didn't answer.

"Alright, you don't have to tell us here", Mark said.
Paige still had that fearful look in her eyes.
"If they see me, I'm dead. PLEASE, just get me somewhere safe, or out of the country, or anywhere else but here!", Paige pleaded.
Sarah thought long and hard about this. She had a friend who specialised in illegal transfers outside of America. While she was thinking, Paige told Mark that she had some close friends over in the UK, and if she could get out of the country and into the UK, she would be alright.
"Paige, who is 'they'? Do people in the force want to hurt you? Paige, if you don't explain to us what has happened here and what is happening with you, how can we help you?", Sarah said.

Paige refused to talk about who was doing this or how she had injured her arm. "If you're not going to help me, then leave!" Mark and Sarah looked at each other--something more was going on her than it seemed.
"Let me talk to her alone," suggested Mark. Sarah agreed and went outside to wait. She walked a little ways down the hall and could not hear anything from the bathroom.
Mark sat on the closed toilet across from Paige, looked her directly in the eyes, and said softly "I need you to listen to what I'm going to tell you."

"If you say that people are hunting you, you will be killed, correct? Coming with us is the only chance you've got. But please, we need to know what happened here and what is going on. You can tell us in the car if you like".
Paige's attitude suddenly changed. It was like her and Mark had a connection, like she could understand him and he could understand her. She suddenly felt safe, and agreed to seek their help.
"She's gonna tell us everything in the car", Mark said to Sarah as they walked slowly down the stairs.
When the three of them were inside the car (Sarah in the driver's seat & Mark & Paige in the back), Sarah noticed something strange with Paige's behavior in the car.

All Paige's attention was focused on Mark. She was acting almost like Sarah didn't exist. She was still holding the blood-soaked paper to her arm but would not talk about the injury, During the drive, Paige, in the back seat, said suddenly :"I killed them. I killed all those women."
Sarah stopped the car and turned to look through the glass at her. "You what?" she said in shock.

"Every women in that house that was dead, is dead because of me. I killed them all. They lived lives of misery, they only came to these parties so they could earn money for food. They were prostitutes, and the men who came through those doors did unthinkable things to these women. Some of them begged me to do it, others told me to make it look like the men did it, and others didn't want to die. One of the men arrived and saw what I was doing. He then tried killing me; that's how I hurt my arm."
"Look, I know you must think I'm a monster", she continued. "But those girls' lives were over the second they walked through those doors. They had nothing."
Sarah and Mark sat there in silence for a few minutes, trying to come to terms with what Paige had told them. She had killed all those women? There must've been at least 20 in the house. And what happened to the man who caught her?, Sarah thought.

Mark had not told Sarah this, but he knew what had happened to man that caught Paige. While Sarah went upstairs, Mark went into the kitchen and saw a man lying on the floor, badly hurt but still alive. He tried to tell Mark what was going on, but was so incoherent that Mark could make no sense of his words. He radioed for an ambulance and told the station what they had found, then joined Sarah upstairs. He thought whether he should tell them this.

"Please, you have to cover this up. I can't go to prison, and I did this for their benefits", Paige pleaded to Mark.
"Sorry love, but the law is the law", Mark replied. "We're taking you to the station"
Paige's face quickly filled with horror and rage. As the car was moving, she jumped out, and prepared to run.
"YOU BETRAYED ME! I THOUGHT YOU ACTUALLY CARED ABOUT ME!", she shrieked towards Mark.
Before Mark could get out of the car, Paige ran into a dense forest area.

((The ambulance had already been. If an officer calls for an ambulance, they cannot leave the scene until the ambulance arrives. They didn't take Paige to the car until after the ambulance picked up the man))

"Now what do we do?" asked Sarah. "The department is expecting her to be with us!"
"And Detective McBain will have our heads--and our badges--if he find out we let a suspect get away," replied Mark.
Sarah was silent for a moment, then said quietly "So maybe it will be best if he never finds out."
Mark looked at her. Is she saying what I think she's saying?

Mark swore an oath that he would never lie to his superiors, but he couldn't just dump Sarah in it all.
Cops have a code, to look after each other, so maybe it was ok if Paige got away after all. I'm sure there was some other reason she did it he kept telling himself.
But nevertheless, Mark was still uncomfortable with the situation. Too many times had Sarah had bent the rules. He couldn't keep going on like this.
"Sarah, stop the car please", Mark began. "This incident has just about done it with me. You're too irresponsible and you need a wake up call".
Sarah was confused about the whole thing. Back when this was happening, Sarah was a very different person, with a different attitude towards things.
"You can find a new partner", Mark said, and as he grabbed his coat and got out of the car he finished with "I'll walk".

Sarah had never told anyone, not even Peter, about the incident. As far as she knew, Mark hadn't either, and Paige...well, they never saw her after that. So it was unlikely that this Brent Tyler knew anything about it.

(Wow, this is really getting complex)

By that time, Det. Tyler was back on his feet. He told Peter "You're lucky I'm a reasonable man. I could book both you and your kid for assault, but I don't need the hassle or the paperwork." He got in his car (parked behind the house) and drove away. "So we're being investigated?" Peter asked Sarah. "What kind of game is McBain playing with us?"

Sarah hadn't spoke with Mark ever since the night of Blackclover 2020. Of course in the station they would pass by each other, but they never spoke a word to each other. Sarah hoped her relationship with Mark could become more casual again, as she needed a friend in the force if she was being investigated. Talking to Mark was really the best chance she had of getting a better understanding of this situation, so she had to find a way to get past their differences.

Suddenly, Megan spoke up about something they had all forgotten. "I still don't understand why there's two of our car in the driveway." They looked out the window and both cars were still there.
"I never thought to check out the other car," Peter said.
They went outside to take a closer look. There was no license plate on the car, but the doors were unlocked. No keys in the ignition, though.

Peering inside, Megan could spot nothing out of the ordinary. The seats were the same and the steering wheel too. This car even had the same scratches in the same places that their car had. As Megan was about to say something, her phone rang. She was unsure whether to answer it, since it was her best friend Stacey Phillips.

She decided to answer. "Hey, Megan! Are you still coming to my slumber party tomorrow night?"
"Sure, I'll be there," Megan replied. She had already gotten permission from her father to go.
"Great! But you should know, Bernice is going to be here, too." Bernice was another friend of Stacey's, but for some reason, she didn't like Megan. "Don't start any trouble."
"I won't bother her if she doesn't bother me." Megan told her. Stacey thanked her and hung up.
Peter was looking into the trunk of the duplicate car. There was a backpack in there which did not belong to any of them. Inside was a strange-looking electronic device.

"What on Earth is this?", Peter inquired.
An Italian man who looked awfully like Mario from Super Mario games walked up and explained to him what it is.
"This...is a seniver portal. In reality it doesn't exist, nor do I, but you mayaswell enjoy this time while you have it", he replied.
Just as Peter was about to ask him something else, he woke up in bed with Sarah.
"Have a bad dream?", Sarah wondered while saying it aloud at the same time.

Peter looked over at her. "You wouldn't believe the wild dream I just had."
She turned on the beside lamp and propped herself on on elbow, smiling. "Tell me about it."
"Well," he began. "It started out with you walking in the rain, to deliver something to a guy named McBain."

"Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa", Sarah began in panic. "How the hell do you know about McBain?"
Sarah instantly knew she made a mistake. If he was in a dream, it didn't prove he was real. Now she would have to cough up the truth.
"McBain is my lover", she began, horrifying Peter. "You're a lousy husband, and always will be!"
Peter woke up on the grass outside his house, confused as to what just happened.
"Dad, are you alright?", Megan asked. "You passed out right after you looked inside the car"
