New Blood

Yeah, Detective Doakes was a great character. I wonder if the actor chose not to return or if his character was just written off. He easily could have been the series long storyline, trying to build a case against Dexter.

That's the guy, I remrnber wondering why he was written off at the time, his character was developing nicely. The look on the guys face when he looked at Dexter was hilarious. Dexter would just smile back at him as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth which made the scene even more funny.

I did love the headbutt that got Doakes suspended. You didn't see that coming.

Apparently the producers realised afterwards they had mad a mistake killing the Doakes character so quickly but it was already part of the script.

Yeah. They could have had him escape the blast and then lay low since he knew he would be charged, but no. Oh well.

New Blood episode four was a bit of ehh for me. It was the shortest yet, and it seems like they are going to take the less creative route and have his son have a dark passenger as well. Not a horrible premise, but one that you saw coming.

I think they were following the script of the book. Doaks gets his feet, hands, and tongue chopped off by the serial killer who captures him in the book, can't remember if that happened in the series, probably not as I think I would remember something like that.

No, Dexter just had in caged up in the cabin in the series. Then the new girlfriend from the AA meetings lit the place on fire, killing Doakes in the process. Dexter then kills her at the end of the season for having killed Doakes and attempting to kill him and Rita's children.

The book sounds better, the serial killer sounds like an absolute lunatic in the book. Apparently Doaks tried to warn Dexter the serial killer was nearby but was unable to bcause he had no hands or tongue, both had been cut off by the serial killer who captured him.

Have you read the books the series is based on?

I actually have never read the books. I do know they end with Dexter presumably being arrested after his final alibi dies in front of him.

Seriously, if I had time on my hands, I'd like to read the book. I might get it for the next time I go on holiday and read it on the plane to kill time. It sounds interesting comparing it to the series. I recently went through my old DVDs and have all the series, just wish I had the time to sit down and watch them all again. I have the same problem with the Sopranos and Breaking Bad.

You should still read them. I have heard they are way different than the TV Series. I do not think Rita ever dies in them, or at least not until the end. I believe the two also have a daughter and not a son.

I wonder why the producers didn't follow the book. Surely it's a gamble when you detour off on a successful book. The same thing happened with First Blood by David Morrell, in the book John Rambo dies at the end yet in the films he lived. I personally think it would have been better if they killed Rambo off and not had these silly sequels, they were all terrible. First Blood is one of, if not my favorite movie of all time, left a big impression on me when I was 12 and watched it for the first time in 1982. There's talk of a First Blood remake and Rambo being a drifter from the Iraq War. I wish they would leave the film alone, it's bad enough with those sequels.

Why does anyone not stick to the original? Because they think they can do it better or produce something that will be more widely accepted.

Even though I have a number of fan fiction ideas, I still think we should let true artists tell their story.

New episode tonight was good. Story starting to build. Detective Batista made a guest appearance. Love it.

Detective Batista and his hat was my favourite character in Dexter, his mannerisms and expressions made me laugh each week.I couldn't take the actor seriously when he was cast as the dictator in the Expendables movie.

Batista literally flipped the entire direction of this new season. I loved it. By the end of the episode, I was like Oh S***!!!!!

Any idea how I can find out when the new series will be shown in Europe? I don't understand why it is not shown weekly over here like Disney do with the Marvel and Star Wars episodes which are screened the same time they are shown in the US.

I'm not sure if it's true, but Google tells me UK viewers can watch on Sky Atlantic on Mondays at 10pm.

I would assume Dexter hits the main streaming services after the season ends. But if you wanna watch now, Dennis, you could download the Showtime Anytime app and sign in with my subscription. I don't mind.

Thanks Warrior13, that's a nice offer but I don't want to screw things up for you if we get caught.

I'll wait for when the series is released on Netflicks after it has run it's course on Showtime. I don't want to sign up to another network for one series. If it is not released on Netflix I'll just buy the box set.
