I think the Lions have a decent core. That offensive line is really strong and TJ Hockenson is going to be a top 5 tight end. And a good offensive line is maybe the biggest part of developing a young QB. The defensive line isn't terrible. Weak secondary and WR room, and they have trouble keeping RBs healthy, but Dandre Swift looks promising. The Lions are for sure not good but they aren't going to be historically bad either. When they get a QB they'll appreciate having Sewell.

Looks like everyone gas given up on Jared Goff at the Lions before he has thrown a ball. I put Goff in the same bracket as Prescott and Cousins, he's not a bad quarteback but has issues that prevent him being an elite quarterback.

Who is being the hailed as the next great quarteback in college and what draft will he enter?

Looks like the Chiefs have taken a hit on the offensive line, Stefen Wisniewski has decided to retire.

I have given up on Goff, but that has to do with the Lions having no targets outside of Hockenson. He needs everything to go right to be successful, but the Lions have too many holes.

I am hearing that most executives have limited the upcoming draft QB Class to only having two potential elite prospects. I list like eight in consideration, but now it is down to Rattler (Oklahoma) and Corral (Mississippi) at this point. Another new prospect is gaining traction, Glass out of Alabama A&M (wtf?).

DJ Uiagalelei seems to be the 2023 favorite out of Clemson. He has a huge arm, reminds me of Culpepper.

Beyond 2022 and 2023, I know a lot of people are high on Arch Manning (Cooper Mannings son, nephew of Peyton and Eli). I think he would be 2025 or 2026 draft at the earliest, but he seems to be the next prodigy.

Goff is definitely not as good as Prescott and Cousins.

Alabama A&M, huh? They play in the SWAC, that's an FCS school. But so is North Dakota State, and Wentz and Lance came from there.

Notable alumni from Alabama A&M are HoF WR John Stallworth and former Colts great Robert Mathis.

I had never heard of it when I was reading it. But apparently the kid is like 6'5" and has all the measurables. These scouts will go anywhere now if a dude has even the slightest of potential. I would be cautious though with a guy coming from such a small school. Wentz has been up and down, and Lance is still unproven. Plus, both of those guys came from the best of the smaller schools. Is Alabama A&M even decent at that second level?

They won their conference championship last year... weak conference though. Pretty much all the schools are small HBCUs. I think Alabama A&M is the team to beat. A lot of the teams have alumni in the NFL though.

Finding prospects from small schools is not easy, they may have championship this and championship that but if they are facing inferior opponents it is a bit misleading. With the big prestigious schools you know that the players are going to be a higher level and have been facing tougher opposition.

I think the odds of a small school kid popping is significantly lower than the rest, so much so that I would probably not draft one if I was the one making the pick for a team. Between Oklahoma and Alabama A&M, I'm going with the Oklahoma kid all the way. lol

For sure, most of the players drafted are from Power Five conferences. Just harder to evaluate talent when you've got a team or player in a lesser conference or a DII or DIII team that just dominates.

I went to a DIII school (the schools in DIII do not give athletic scholarships), and one of my best friends played basketball. Just a huge freak athlete, 6 foot 8. Absolute monster, a gigantic center in D3. Led the country in rebounds, was top 10 in points. But he never sniffed an NBA scout and really never any interest from D2 or D1 schools because the conference my school played in, the NJAC, is made up of public schools in New Jersey that don't put much focus on athletics.

I don't think we can take much notice of which QBs are seen as prospects yet. I remember a few years ago either Warrior or Dennis posted a list of some QBs who were seen as prospects, and out of about 5 only one of them was taken in the first 5 rounds of the draft. Unless there is one stand-out prospect.

There's not long to go until the season starts. Are we going to do Yahoo tipping again?

I think that was my list Matt, it was too early, a couple of those players decided to stay in college another year and a couple of others were drafted in the later rounds and are now out of the league. Being an NFL quarterback is like winning the lottery. You need a lot of luck as well as skill and it helps being in the right place at the right time.It makes you realise how good the third string quarterbacks need to be to play in the NFL.

Gardner Minshew is being traded to the Eagles. Looks like Philadelphia have no confidence in Jalen Hurtz.

Minshew to Eagles. Wow. Makes no sense when they can see if Hurts can be the guy, even more so since they Flacco as a decent backup.

Eagles immediately released Pick Nick after the trade. His career is over.

Philly fans will absolutely love Minshew and will be screaming for him to start as soon as Hurts has a below average game.

Man, backup QB is the most loved position in all of Philly sports. If you go back to the early 2000s we have:

  • AJ Feeley, who played his way into the Miami starting job
  • Jeff Garcia, who came in and played as well as McNabb at 36 years old and won the Tampa starting job the next year
  • Kevin Kolb, who the Eagles traded to the Cards for a second round pick and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
  • Mike Vick, who came in and had a Pro Bowl year
  • Nick Foles, obviously
  • Nick Foles again, the year after winning the SB

Then clamoring for Hurts last year. Backup QB in Philly isn't just a clipboard job, it's destiny. Minshew will find some opportunity to start and play well enough to have Eagles fans wanting to sign him long-term, or some other team massively overpaying to make him the starter. Fun stuff.

I wouldn't be so sure. Definitely depends on how Hurts plays.

If you are a Dolphin fan you must be getting excited, Miami are in negotiations for DeShaun Watson. It hasn't been disclosed whether it is a done deal but it has been confirmed they are the forerunners at the moment.

Meh. Is he even going to play? If his case progresses can he be suspended? Will he even play for Miami? A lot of these guys only want to be traded to specific teams and will set out otherwise, regardless of lost money from fines. Not worth the trouble IMO when tua has looked good in preaseason with a full training camp under his belt and no injury. Not sure why people are so ready to give up on Tua as if he's been playing like he's Deshone Kizer or Jamarcus Russell.

Dennis - 95% of Miami fans (including me) are horrified of this news. Houston are asking for three 1st round picks and two 2nd round picks. Tua has been doing well in training camp and preseason, and has a great attitude. Meanwhile Watson has probably raped/abused several women, and may not even play in the NFL again.

My hope is that Houston are faking this story, so that other teams get interested in Watson again.
