swimming is probably the best form of cardio although I like the idea of mountain bike riding. jogging is just plain boring.

Yea swimming is definitely the best form of cardio to burn calories. Look at those Olympic swimmers, most of them are eating absurd amounts of food to maintain their energy levels.

I find riding a bike enjoyable when I have some free time, but agreed Jogging/Running is boring and I can't stand it.

I used to swim for 60-90 mins depending on which level I was in once a week. And it wasn't light 'have a good time' swimming. It was full on, and that did nothing for my fitness lol.

I used to have the body of a 20 year old gymnast...
.. but it took up too much room in the freezer

Seriously though I think its easier to stay in shape, or at least not get too put of shape when you are younger. The older you get the more help your body needs. Although there are plenty of people who struggle when they are young and really turn it around. Takes a lot but can be done.

I am trying to push myself at the moment to improve my running (= slow jogging and sweating). I have got my eye on a half marathon event as a goal but not convinced I can handle it yet. Anyone else done anything similar and got any training tips.

The two most important thing is having a decent pair of trainers. Half marathon, isn't that about 13 miles? Good luck with that, I'd like to do that as well but unfortunately I weigh nearly 90 plus Kg these days (too much of a pounding on my knees).

I have a pair of Asics, similar to the ones in the list but a little lower down the price scale. I've not got to the point of spending a lot of money on running. But I may do if I keep it up.

Even though I've never done a marathon, I can tell you adding slowly to your routine will make it achievable. Alot of people want instant results, which sadly isn't how our body works. Try adding a 1/4 Mile to your run everytime, and slowly work your way up to the distance needed.
