I think the Texans have to play without Watson this season. Even if he does play this year it doesn't help the Texans in the building of their team as he will likely face criminal proceedings next year which will result in him being suspended for most of, if not the whole season. That is if he doesn't go to prison for a long time. Texans need to flog him, but I can't see no takers now for Watson with the case hanging over him. He may as well retire, his career is finished pretty much the same way Michael Vick was never the same when he returned from suspension.
I still think Watson will pay off the accusers just before the trial starts and all this will go away. He then only serves a 5 game suspension for bringing the game into disrepute, and he gets flogged to he Raiders.
Dennis: That's why the Texans should cut their losses and trade him. I think they could still sucker a team to giving up a 1st since he will be eligible to play this year. It's better to trade him now despite his lessened value rather than holding out on doing so and risking him getting criminal charges filed (which would make him have absolutely no value).
It will be difficult for the Texans to cut their losses with Watson. Elite quarterbacks are extremely hard to come by and after being offered 4 number one picks it makes the organisation look like fools getting such small return now in comparison. They may take the chance that the case gets settled out of court and Watson regains a bit of prestige and his trade value rises again. I think this will happen and he will get traded to the Raiders in 2022 after sitting out the entire 2021 season because he refuses to play for the Texans.
Criminal charges to me seem unlikely but I think he'll be sitting out 2021 regardless and will be playing in 2022 - maybe for the Texans if his value is really that low. I've gotta think if his value is so low that they can only get one 1st for him they'll just keep him and treat 2021 as a lost year. Assuming no criminal charges/jail time he'll be playing in 2022, they're going to be terrible in 2021 so that kind of seems like the best scenario. You've gotta think Deshaun Watson playing in 2022 is better than whatever they could draft, but the team might just want to cut their losses.
If Watson is not traded and sits out this year, I think that will cause his value to plummet. Why? Well, the Texans will be horrible and might even earn the 1st Overall Pick. If that happens, they will be drafting a QB. This will surely cause teams to lowball the Texans for Watson since they know they already have a replacement. It only makes sense to trade him now and get what you can for him. I only see his value dropping further, whether because of criminal charges or the Texans finding their next franchise QB.
I think you are right Warrio13, that makes sense. Only problem is there are no decent quarterbacks in the 2022 class, which is why there was all that fuss this year.
Watson has publicly stated he will never play another game for the Texans so Houston need to get rid of him now, getting one 1st round pick is looking good at this stage. Once everyone knows he can or cannot play again his stock will either increase or plummet.
Yep, the 2022 QB Class is weak, and that's another reason why the Texans should trade Watson now. If you're a QB needy team, why struggle and have a high pick for one of those QBs when you can just trade for Watson now. The Texans already lost out on three 1sts from the Panthers; they might as well try to get at least one 1st and trade him now before his stock plummets anymore.
Totally agree. Still must be upsetting for the Texans knowing there was once 3 first round picks on offer. The Texans need to move off from Watson as soon as possible and take the best offer that is a available now or risk leaving the table with nothing.
It's strange how a squeaky clean face of the franchise quarterback was really a sleazy creep in his spare time. Makes you wonder how many other high profile players in the NFL are like that. Watson literally went from hero to zero in a matter of hours. If Watson pays up I think complaints about other players will start emerging. Love to see the same thing happen to Rogers, bring the arrogant guy down a peg or two.
Great reminder that just because these guys play sports and make a ton of money that they are not necessarily great people or role models. They're just people.
Still no news as to where Rogers will be playing when the season starts? I hear if Rogers forces a move it will open up the floodgates for other disgruntled players.
Laughable at how badly Houston have screwed up. Before it all started to crumble, they were a young team with some talent, and two of the most promising young QBs and WRs in the game. They were playoff regulars and with some trades/free agency, has the potential to become contenders. Now they're one of the worst teams in the NFL, and just missed out on picking 1st round talent for 2020 and 2021. Not to mention that their star QB wants out, and has significantly less value.
This is why trading/free agency moves are so critical for up and coming teams. It can make or break you.

~ Sometimes people change, but sometimes you just open your eyes & realise who they truly are ~
Dennis: No news. Rodgers will have to be even bolder if he wants to force a trade.
Matt: Just goes to show you have to pull the trigger when you can. I bet the Texans could have gotten McCaffery, Anderson, and three 1sts. they could have then drafted Fields with the #8 Overall from the Panthers. Fields and McCaffery, along with their other free agents, would have seen them somewhat decent this year. Not to mention, Fields and Lawrence would face each other twice a season for the next five years at a minimum.
When the NFL Films eventually do a 'The Top 10 Worst Franchise Decisions' not trading Deshaun Watson before his abusing massage girls rap came to light will be number one. As Warrior13 alluded that was a franchise changing trade that would have given the Texans the opportunity to build a great team that maybe made a run at the Super Bowl.
Hindsight is 20/20 though. Nobody would trade a franchise QB like Watson when they have him locked in to an extension. There was never a whisper of this creep stuff before now.
I have to say players (especially the NFL and NBA) are getting a little annoying with signing massive contracts and then demanding trades/sitting out. Honor your contract.

I would have traded him the instant he said he was done and then the Panthers called with that offer. No question about it. Fields or Lance was destined to be at #8 even back then. Either with McCaffery would have made a formidable duo.
I make you right Warrior13, I would have done the same the instant he made it publicly known he no longer wanted to play for the Texans. Right at that moment you knew Watson could no longer be the face of the franchise and he had to go. His marketability in Houston was at that point 0.
It's going to be interesting seeing what happens to him. The whole thing how it just so happened to suddenly develop immediately after Watson stated publicly he no longer wanted to play for the Texans looks suspicious to say the least. You can't tell me people hadn't heard whispers that he was abusing massage girls a and were keeping quiet to maintain his squeaky clean image while he played at Houston.
