I agree with you 100% Warrior13, it's just greed. Back in the 70s and 80s lots of professional football players had a second job during the summer and they were not holding out for new contracts. Back during the early 80s the average NFL salary was 50K now its 500K so it's now ten times more than what it was. Just a matter of time before it implodes, the sport is already losing popularity from what it once was with all these rule changes that are making it look like touch football. Gone are the days were you saw vicious hits where you wondered if the guy was going to get up. Quarterback now is the safest position in football.

Well I don't think you can compare the sport in the 80s to how it is today. Completely different game and economics, makes comparing money pretty much useless. But you're right that at a point enough is enough. How many millions do you need? I know a lot of these guys are supporting large extended families but come on. When you see a guy like Brady and now Cooper Kupp (who put up the production of 2 WRs last year and is on a pretty modest contract) taking pretty team friendly deals.

Me too, but I'm also not a world-class athlete and my peers aren't making 20M. I'm sure it has to be hard to take a discount when guys you see as worse than you are getting massive deals.

That's the crux of the problem, when you are doing whatever job you want to be paid the going rate for it. If you get a salary of 30K for example and the guy next to you at work is getting 60K for doing the same job, you will naturally want the same as them otherwise resentment builds up. It must be the same with professional athletes but on a larger scale. For them it's the difference between whether they get a Bugatti Centodieci or a Mazda Miata.

I think I would have the Brady mindset. It's a team sport, not a me sport.

Again, how many millions do you need before you're set? Shoot, how many millions do you need for you to comfortably say that it's generational wealth? I mean, even 5 million per year is x5 what most make in their entire lifetime.

Dennis, yeah exactly. That's why employers don't want employees talking about salaries with each other, at least here in the US.

Warrior I agree personally but it's a different mindset with these guys. It's easy to put yourself in their shoes hypothetically and say you'd take 10M instead of 25M, but really when it comes down ti it I wouldn't be very happy making a third of what some guy on a different team is making, especially if I'm a better player.

Also, good news on the job front. Heard back from the lady I interviewed with and have a second interview Tuesday with her and the IT Director. Good sign.

That's great news steelersrock01, when you get a second interview you know you are down to the final 2-3 candidates. Sounds like a case of its down to who the IT Director feels is the most suitable for the actual job. The lady's job was to probably find the best fit for the company personality wise.

Same in the UK steelersrock01, talking about salaries with members of staff can lead to disciplinary action as it can cause problems within the company.

Warrior13, Brady can afford to have that mindset, his wife earns more than him. They won't miss a few million here or there.

These athletes get a taste of the good life, and they want more of it, which requires more money. It's like a drug some of them get addicted to, and it ultimately ends up with them becoming greedy and selfish as they become more concerned about their personal wealth than the team.

I think they are hiring 2 people for the role so here's hoping.

Yup. Companies aren't allowed to punish people for it officially but it's an "unwritten rule" to not talk about salary with coworkers.

Athletes do get addicted to the money, and they always support their families, then they have cousins and "friends" from back home that need some help and that stuff adds up. Especially once they're retired.

Hope you get it, Mike!

I get the mindset; I'm just saying that there has to be a point where you know you have enough money. lol

I'd like to think I would be more like Brady, even if no wife with double my own worth. lol

I haven't heard a whisper out of Cleveland since the Deshaun Watson trade. Not sure where the Browns are going with Mayfield either, the guy has asked them for a trade and they have told him they are not willing to accomodate. Is it me or is Watson going to the Browns already looking like a huge mistake before he has even thrown a pass. There must be players in the offensive line loyal to Mayfield who are not happy with what has transpired.

It will happen after the draft. From everything I'm reading, the Steelers and Saints are favorites to land Pickett and Willis. I can't tell which for which, but I would assume Willis to the Steelers via a trade up. From there, I'm also hearing the Seahawks will trade up in the back half of the 1st for Matt Corral and the Falcons will do the same for Desmond Ridder. Again, some could be smokescreens, but that's what I'm reading.

After what happened with the Steelers and Dan Marino I feel confident Pittsburgh will take Kenny Pickett if he is available. He is from the area and the fans idolise him already from playing for the University of Pittsburgh. Sounds like Mayfield will probably end up with the Saints.

I believe the Steelers prefer Willis since they could use Trubisky in the meantime, but I don't think they would mind Pickett. It's starting to look more and more like the Steelers will be walking away with a QB, either by trading up for Willis or having Pickett fall to them at #20.

I'm seeing some mocks with Pickett being the first QB off the board at 20 to the Steelers, which seems insane to me.

I'm betting the Steeler go all in to get the local boy, Pickett, no way will that let what happened with Dan Marino repeat itself. The Steelers would have won two or three Super Bowls in the mid 80's to mid 90's with Marino, I have no doubt about that. The only thing that let the Dolphins down year in and year out was their defense. It Marino had of had the likes of John Stallworth, Louis Lipps, and Yancy Thigpin to throw to he would have put up big numbers in Pittsburgh. Those three quarterbacks are as good as if not better than Mark Clayton and Mark Duper.

It's all a smokescreen, everybody knows Pickett and Willis are going in the first ten picks. Watch Pittsburgh trade up and grab Pickett. Willis I think will end up with the Falcons.

Just posted the link to my Final mock Draft in the other thread. Can't wait to see your guys' mocks.

I have Pickett going to the Saints. Willis to the Steelers. Hard to say when, but I think those will be the player-to-teams. My mock has them at #16 and #20 since we don't have to predict trades to get points in our system. I think Pickett might slide to the Saints at #16, and Willis will go to the Steelers sometime before then via a trade up.

The Packers are trying to acquire Darren Waller. Him with Aaron Rogers would be a lethal combination. The Packers would soon forget about losing Davante Adams.

Yeah, the Packers can try all they want, but Waller isn't going anywhere.
