Sounds like a case of its down to who the IT Director feels is the most suitable for the actual job. The lady's job was to probably find the best fit for the company personality wise.

Warrior13, Brady can afford to have that mindset, his wife earns more than him. They won't miss a few million here or there.
These athletes get a taste of the good life, and they want more of it, which requires more money. It's like a drug some of them get addicted to, and it ultimately ends up with them becoming greedy and selfish as they become more concerned about their personal wealth than the team.
